Giada Barney-Sink

Giada Barney-Sink is a dramatic mezzo-soprano and native of Las Vegas. She is a senior at UNLV, pursuing a degree in Vocal Performance. Music has always been a big part of her life. She began studying piano at the age of 7 and then violin at age 11. She thoroughly enjoyed playing violin in high level orchestras and at the Smith Center in Las Vegas as a solo violinist with a full orchestra. She studied violin throughout middle and high school under Bob Taras and at UNLV under Weiwei Le during freshman and sophomore year of her undergraduate career. She has been teaching violin and piano for over 5 years.

While first finding her passion for classical music through violin and piano, it was not until she was 18 years old that she discovered her affinity and passion for singing and opera. From March 2019 to August 2020, she served a volunteer mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving the people of Madrid and southern Spain. In Spain, Giada had many opportunities to perform in concerts singing solos and playing violin, piano, and organ, including a Christmas concert with the Banda Municipal de Granada under the direction of Ángel López Carreño.

Giada has performed in scene programs for UNLV as Elettra from Idomeneo, re di Creta, Jade Boucher from Dead Man Walking, and Kathie from The Student Prince. In December of 2021, Giada played Giselle in the filming of Linda Lister’s new one-act opera, Body of Art, which was premiered in 2022 (full recording available on YouTube). In March 2022, she played Appolonia in the full UNLV Opera Production of La Canterina. In November 2022, she will play Grace Ansley in UNLV Opera’s production of Roman Fever. Giada studies at UNLV under Dr. Alfonse Anderson.
